The New Era of Street Style
Street style represented the streets, now it represents a logo.
There is no definition to street style/wear, you create your own definition, or at least that was the thought when it was ''created''.
Street style started around the 1970s in some New York ghettos, with the aim to represent the Hip Hop community. The thought behind it, was to express your identity through fashion and make ghettos their own, it was a way to fight higher classes, it's related luxury fashion and represent the streets.
70's New York City gangThroughout the years, this has changed and some would say to the worse:
Nowadays, street fashion has lost it's meaning, it still represents the youth, but it does not come from the lower classes anymore. The Hypebeast or Supreme youth is what represent today's street fashion, which mostly only includes higher class youngsters, as the prices don't go lower than 500 $ a piece.

The New Era
Eventhough, many would say that street fashion does not carry it's true values, such as revelation, culture and identity, a new wave besides ''luxury'' street fashion has arisen and I like to call it the ''Vintage Movement''.
This new era of street style, does not only carry its own identity but it is also part of a community. It gives the youth a scene and culture, music and values. It does not only approach the rich and popular, everybody can wear it and everybody can do it their own. There are no rules.
As it's name says, it is inspired by older fashion trends and there is really no perfect way of doing it. Everybody seems to do it their own, and add their own identity into it. This new wave is starting to grow more and more every year and reaching people all over the world.

Arguably, this new wave of street clothing is definitely not as harsh and controversial as the ones from the past. This, has to probably do with our society, as our youth (mostly) does not live the harsh realities of ghettos from the 70s.
What do you think about it? Is this new era street enough for you? Let me know in the comments!
